Arrests in several cases of sexual assault –

On Monday, August 19, 2024, an incident was reported involving a suspect identified as “JC.” The victim stated that they met the suspect at a bar in Palm Springs and subsequently conversed with him and friends at a local hotel. The situation later escalated and resulted in a non-consensual sexual encounter.

The victim managed to leave the city of Palm Springs and travel to the Inland Empire, where he reported the incident to local authorities.

During the investigation, detectives were able to determine that the suspect was actually Juan Segura, a 27-year-old man from Palm Springs. On Wednesday, August 21, detectives found Segura in the 400 block of E Arenas Road. He was arrested without incident and taken to the John Benoit Detention Center, where he was initially held on $180,000 bail.

Further investigation into Segura's past revealed additional cases linked to him. In March 2024, a sexual assault was reported in which the victim believed she was drugged and raped by Segura. In another case from August 2024, a victim reported a similar encounter with Segura. The victim stated that she fell unconscious after meeting Segura and woke up with injuries consistent with a sexual assault.

Investigators conducted further follow-up on these cases and gathered enough evidence to charge Segura. Based on the entire investigation, the following charges were filed:

• Count 3: PC 261(a)(3) – Rape of an intoxicated person, and the defendant knew

Because of this charge, Segura is now being held without bail.
