Fatal head-on collision leads to closure of I-80 ramp in Tooele

TOOELE, Utah (KUTV) — A fatal head-on collision forced the closure of the I-80 on- and off-ramps in Tooele.

The accident occurred Tuesday afternoon and authorities advised the public to avoid the area near mile marker 99 for two hours.

According to Utah Highway Patrol trooper Luis Silva, a woman traveling eastbound on I-80 in an SUV attempted to enter the westbound ramp but crossed the center line and collided head-on with a pickup truck.

The woman died at the scene of the accident, Silva said.

The driver of the pickup truck, whose age and gender were not specified, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Silva said.

According to official information, the ramps are expected to be closed until around 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

It was unclear why the SUV crossed the center line.
