Auburn man flees after Elbridge crash involving Wolcott teen – Finger Lakes Daily News

An Auburn man is accused of fleeing the scene of a crash in Elbridge that left three people hospitalized.

According to state police, the incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. Monday at the intersection of State Route 5 and Hamilton Road.

Mitchell Podolak is accused of failing to stop at a red light at the intersection and striking a Honda Civic driven by 17-year-old Tanner Miller of Wolcott, who was traveling west on Route 5.

Witnesses on the scene observed Podolak fleeing on Hamilton Road. He was later located by Onondaga County Sheriff's officers in a helicopter in a wooded area near Tessy Plastic. The helicopter was able to guide officers on the ground to his location.

When Podolak refused to comply, he was shot with a taser. He then obeyed.

Podolak was transported to SP Elbridge and arrested for DUI, resisting arrest, hit and run resulting in personal injury, hit and run resulting in property damage, and several traffic violations. He was then transported to the Onondaga County Justice Center for arraignment.

Three passengers in the Honda were taken to Upstate with non-life-threatening injuries.
