Seattle columnist criticizes Mariners' Jerry Dipoto and calls for his firing

The Seattle Mariners are currently 67-65 this season. In the American League West race, they are 3.5 games behind the first-place Houston Astros.

The team parted ways with manager Scott Servais last week, which is fine in and of itself. However, the way Servais found out about his firing (from the internet) was not. He deserved better from an organization he was loyal to for nine years, and he deserved better from Jerry Dipoto, who hired him and considered him a close personal friend.

But this is normal for Dipoto, says columnist Danny O'Neil of the Tacoma News Tribune, who wrote a scathing article about Dipoto that appeared on Tuesday.

Here's the link to the whole thing. Here's one of the juiciest parts:

But everything else is not right. This season has been absolutely at rock bottom and when you see how it has developed, you realise that it is not just the line-up that needs to be improved.

There is a problem with the way this team treats its people, and I believe it starts at the top of the baseball department.

Dipoto has also been with the Mariners since 2016, and while he's gotten a lot of praise for building the pitching staff and farm system, he's also gotten a lot of flack for bad decisions. And now he's getting criticized for things he does off the field, too.

The Mariners are back in action Tuesday night at 6:40 p.m. PT with Logan Gilbert throwing against Jeffrey Springs.
