John Cartledge appointed Northampton Police Chief

NORTHAMPTON, Massachusetts (WGGB/WSHM) — John Cartledge has been named the new police chief for the city of Northampton.

Cartledge is a native of Northampton and has spent his entire career with the city's police force.

He started as a patrol officer in 1995 and climbed the career ladder over the past nearly three decades before being named interim chief of police earlier this year.

His appointment follows a highly competitive, nationwide selection process following the resignation of former Police Chief Jody Kasper.

Northampton Mayor Gina Louise Sciarra will formally present the appointment to the City Council for confirmation. A public meeting with Chief Cartledge is scheduled for September 11 at 6 p.m.
