Man shot in car at Circle K gas station in Harnett County

A man was shot multiple times in a car and at a gas station in Harnett County on Monday night — by multiple gunmen — the sheriff's office said.

According to the Harnett County Sheriff's Office, the incident began in Sanford in the turn lane of NC Highway 87 and US Highway 421 and ended at the Circle K near Broadway Road in Harnett County.

After 11 p.m., officers responded to Circle K and found DeCarlos Donte Cherry, 32, of Sanford, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Cherry was taken to the hospital. The sheriff's office described him as stable.

According to investigators, Cherry was shot at the intersection of NC 87 and US 421 by someone in a black Dodge Charger.

Cherry drove into Harnett County on US 421 and the Dodge Charger followed. When Cherry turned onto Circle K to get help and went into the store, the occupants of the Dodge Charger fired multiple shots into the store.

There were several customers in the store at the time, but no customers or employees were injured.
