Mariah Carey's sister Alison's tragic final wish is revealed as friends criticise the singer for failing to help her in her final days

Mariah Carey's estranged sister Alison hoped she could mend her broken relationship with her younger megastar sister as she languished on her deathbed.

Alison's friend and health representative David Baker told DailyMail.com that family members knew Alison had been in hospice care for the past month at her home in the small town of Coxsackie, New York – just 24 miles south of Albany.

However, the “Vision of Love” singer never called to check on her dying sister, Baker said.

“Alison was hurt by the way her mother and Mariah treated her, but she always had mixed feelings about her mother,” Baker told DailyMail.com exclusively. “But I know her dying wish was if she could have at least had a conversation with Mariah.”

On Monday, Mariah confirmed that her mother, Patricia and Alison had passed away.

“I am heartbroken to have lost my mother this past weekend,” Mariah said in a statement to People. “Unfortunately, in a tragic turn of events, my sister also passed away that same day.”

She continued, “I feel blessed to have been able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed away. I am grateful for everyone's love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

Baker confirmed that Mariah never called Alison while she was in hospice, but that Alison's four adult children visited her at her Coxsackie home last month.

Mariah had spoken openly about her estrangement from her older sister, who had struggled with drug addiction for years.

In her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the singer referred to Alison as her “ex-sister” and claimed that Alison tried to get her to use drugs and “inflicted” them on her. [her] with third degree burns” when she was a child.

“When I was 12, my sister gave me Valium, offered me a little fingernail full of cocaine… and tried to sell me to a pimp,” Mariah wrote in her memoir. “Something inside me was blocked by all that trauma. That's why I often say, 'I'm 12 forever.' I'm still struggling through that time.”

Mariah said she eventually made the decision to cut Alison out of her life so as not to be “an enabler.”

The estrangement was extremely painful for Alison, Baker said.

“It hurt because Mariah called Alison her ex-sister,” Alison's friend told DailyMail.com. “She used to look after Mariah and take care of her. When this came out, she couldn't believe Mariah had done that because she wasn't speaking to her anymore, but then she kicked Alison in the teeth when she was already on the ground.”

Alison was a recovering drug addict who worked as a prostitute in New York to make ends meet. She was diagnosed with HIV in 1990, although Baker doubts whether the diagnosis was accurate.

Alison continued to spiral downward and was arrested in Saugerties, New York, in 2016 for alleged prostitution.

On Tuesday, Baker confirmed to DailyMail.com that Alison did not die of cancer or HIV. He declined to disclose the exact cause of death, but said Alison died early Saturday morning of “internal organ failure.”

Baker said he found Alison unconscious around midnight on Saturday. A nurse was called who confirmed the 63-year-old had died.

“She was taking medication to make her feel comfortable, and there were no signs that she was distressed or in pain,” Baker said.

The friend said Alison's four children visited her a few weeks before her death.

In a heartbreaking interview with DailyMail.com in 2016, Alison made an impassioned plea to her famous sister, asking for financial support as she struggled with health setbacks following a devastating 2015 break-in that left her with brain damage.

Since the attack, Alison has been in and out of hospital.

“Mariah, I love you, I desperately need your help,” she said to Mariah in an interview in 2016. “Please don't let me down like that.”

Baker, who has been Alison's health advocate and agent for the past nine years, said the 63-year-old has been sober for more than three years, but her health has continued to deteriorate.

Before Alison got her apartment in a small town in upstate New York, she lived in a facility where she underwent physical rehabilitation.

Alison often wondered if her famous sibling would ever contact her as she lived through the final weeks of her life. Baker said his girlfriend of nine years was barely conscious in the final two weeks before her death on Saturday.

Baker sharply criticized the singer and the prepared statement that was released after the deaths of the two women.

“It was horrible because everything was about her,” Baker said. “In her eyes, everything is about Mariah and never about anyone else.”

“If she cared, she would have spoken to Alison when she knew she was dying. Mariah has been like this for a very long time. She does anything to get attention and is always looking for publicity.”

Mariah was also temporarily estranged from her mother, an opera singer.

The “Honey” singer wrote in her memoirs that her mother’s jealousy of her successful career may have been responsible for much of the tension in their relationship.

'[That jealousy] is part of success, but when that person is your own mother and the jealousy comes to the surface at such a young age, it is especially painful,” she wrote of Patricia.

Carey's mother reportedly lived in a senior living facility in West Palm Beach after Mariah sold her mother's home in Westchester County, New York, which she had purchased for her in the 1990s.

Although their relationship was difficult, Mariah and Juliard-trained opera singer Patricia appeared in Christmas specials with their famous daughter.

Meanwhile, Mariah remained estranged from her siblings.

Both Alison and Mariah's older brother Morgan, 64, had previously taken legal action against their little sister because they believed she had made “cruel and outrageous allegations” in her book.

In an interview with DailyMail.com in March 2016, Morgan said Alison inherited $1.6 million from her father, Alfred Carey, when he died in 2002.

A trust fund had been set up for Alison's children, but Alison continued to struggle with mounting medical bills.

She squandered the rest of the money on her drug addiction, Morgan said.

Baker said Alison was honest about her problems but still hoped that one day she could reconcile with her family, especially Mariah.

'[Alison] was a very intelligent and very sensitive person who had a really difficult time in her life,” Baker said. “She had a lot of obstacles in her life from a young age, and I don't think most people could go through something like that and not be affected by it.”

'[Mariah] called her an ex-sister, which was a mean statement and [Alison] I never got over it. She kept pushing her away, as if there was anything she could do to change that. No matter what, she'll always be her sister.'
