A man was arrested after he stole a shopping cart full of merchandise from a Target store in Chino and fled in a U-Haul getaway truck, police said Tuesday.

Chino police said an officer patrolling the Target parking lot was notified by the store of a grand larceny, with police body camera footage showing the incident occurring on Aug. 20.

The surveillance camera footage shows the man, dressed in a black shirt and black pants, leaving the store with a shopping cart full of goods without paying for them.

According to police, the man then loaded the unpaid goods into a U-Haul truck he was driving.

Officers pursued the truck and stopped it on the 60 Freeway. They found that his truck was containing stolen items valued at more than $1,500, Chino police said.

According to police, officers also found an unknown amount of fentanyl in a plastic bag labeled “Hello Kitty” in the U-Haul truck.

The suspected thief, who had four warrants for his arrest for theft and drug possession, was booked into the San Bernardino County Jail on several charges, including grand theft and possession of fentanyl.
