Tulsa mayoral election leads to November runoff • Oklahoma Voice

Voters in Tulsa have sent two mayoral candidates to a runoff election on November 5.

Of the seven nonpartisan candidates on the ballot, Monroe Nichols and Karen Keith will face off in November. More than 56,000 Tulsa residents voted in the mayoral election on Tuesday.

Current Mayor GT Bynum has decided not to seek a third term.

Nichols received 33.10% of the vote and Keith followed with 32.62%. The candidates were separated by less than 300 votes.

Brent VanNorman received 31.84% of the vote, just behind Nichols and Keith, but only the top two candidates made it to the runoff.

Nichols, who was elected Oklahoma state representative for the 72nd district in 2016, would be Tulsa's first black mayor if elected. He has not sought re-election.

Keith has been a county commissioner for Tulsa County's 2nd District since 2008. Prior to that, she was a broadcast journalist for twenty years.
