Mexican worker killed in construction accident at Augusta apartments

A construction worker was killed Friday when he was struck by an excavator bucket while working on Lakeview Terrace off Gordon Highway in Augusta, authorities said.

Adan Cruz Binzha, 28, was taken to Doctors Hospital following the accident, where he was pronounced dead at 5:56 p.m. Friday, coroner Mark Bowen said.

Binzha is from Hidalgo, Mexico, and lived in Augusta while working, authorities said. His family mourned him online, linking to a GoFundMe page.

“We are asking for your help in returning the body of the man who was Adan Cruz-Binzha in life,” the page says. “A young father was in an accident and left a wife, young son, parents, siblings and other family members in deep pain. He lived in Augusta, Georgia, and his family is waiting for his body in Mexico.”

Officials from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are currently investigating the circumstances of the accident. An autopsy is also planned, the coroner said.
