1 dead after car-motorcycle accident in College Township

A 22-year-old man from Centre County died after a Car-motorcycle accident on Monday afternoon near State College, county police said Tuesday evening.

The accident occurred at about 4:20 p.m. at the intersection of East College Avenue and Struble Road in College Township. According to preliminary investigations, a 73-year-old man in a Toyota Prius turned left from College Avenue toward Struble Road and collided with the motorcyclist, who was traveling east on College Avenue, police said.

The 22-year-old motorcyclist, whom police described as a local resident, was thrown from his motorcycle. He was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Altoona, where he was pronounced dead.

His name was withheld pending notification of his family.

The driver of the Prius, whom police also described as a local resident, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The investigation is ongoing. Alcohol and drugs probably did not play a role in the accident, police said.

Centre LifeLink EMS, Alpha Fire Company and the Centre County Accident Reconstruction Team also assisted on scene.
