PBSO Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said another off-duty deputy was near the scene and tended to the injured officer. The suspect then took a deputy's car and fled the scene. It is currently unclear which deputy's car was stolen.

Bradshaw said the suspect drove the car a mile from the crime scene before abandoning the vehicle.

PBSO is looking for a 5'10″ black male in his late 40s to early 50s wearing blue jeans, a gray shirt and a gray hat.

Despite some obstacles, Bradshaw said he was confident that the PBSO would catch the suspect by the end of the night.

“First, it's hot, second, it's rush hour traffic, and third, it's a densely populated area. But we're going to get through this, we can do this,” Bradshaw said. “We're confident we'll get this guy before the end of the night.”

According to PBSO, the deputy is in critical but stable condition.
