“Beverly Hills Cop” star judge Reinhold pays tribute to his “Sarge” and “brother” John Ashton

Beverly Hills police officer Star judge Reinhold paid tribute to his long-time friend and colleague John Ashton, who died at the age of 76 as a result of cancer.

The duo played memorable police partners Taggart and Rosewood in the hit comedy series starring Eddie Murphy. Ashton was the straight man and Reinhold was the clown in a comedy pairing popular in the films.

Reinhold said last night: “Thursday night John seemed to be asleep, but the Yankees were on it. They won the game, took the division and John made it home. Forty years of laughs on and off screen. John LIVED his life! My brother, my partner, my Sarge – I love you. There’s no smoking in heaven, John.”

Ashton starred in the first two films Beverly Hills police officer films and then this year he reprized his role in the Netflix sequel Beverly Hills cop: Axel F.

A representative for Ashton told Deadline that the actor arrived on Thursday in Ft. died “peacefully”. Collins, CO.

“John was a loving husband, brother, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all who knew him,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

“John leaves a legacy of love, dedication and service. His memory will forever be remembered by his wife, children, grandchildren, brother, sisters, extended family and all who loved him. John’s impact on the world will be remembered and celebrated for generations to come.”

In addition, Ashton appeared in films such as Somehow wonderful (1987), Midnight run (1988), Curly Sue (1991), Little big league (1994), Gone, baby gone (2007), Middle men (2009) and Once upon a time there was a river (2019). His TV appearances include episodes of Columbo, Wonder Woman, MASH, Starsky & Hutch, Dallas, The A Team, The twilight zone, Judging Amy And Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Ashton was born on February 22, 1948 in Springfield, MA and grew up in Enfield, CT. He attended Defiance College in Ohio before transferring to the University of Southern California, where he received a BA in Theater Studies.

In addition to acting, Ashton was also an avid golfer who used his talent for various purposes at prominent golf tournaments around the world.

Ashton is survived by Robin Hoye, to whom he was married for 24 years. and Michelle Ashton and Michael Thomas Ashton; his stepchildren Courtney Donovan, Lindsay Curcio and Ashley Hoye; and his grandson Henry.
