Hidden details and Easter eggs in the Sonic The Hedgehog 3 movie trailer – IGN The Fix: Entertainment

The new Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie trailer gave us our first glimpse of the upcoming film in December – and Sonic fans have a lot to look forward to. Shadow is seen in full glory, voiced by Keanue Reeves. We also get a brief glimpse of the ill-fated Maria Robotnik. It looks like #SonictheHedgehog 3 will adapt the story of Sonic Adventure 2. For those who don't know who Dr. Gerald Robotnik is, he is Eggman's grandfather – and Maria's grandfather. Jim Carrey will pull dual roles, portraying both Eggman and the creator of Project Shadow. In the film, we'll likely get insight into the creation of Shadow and how he was warped by Maria's loss. But the question many #Sonic fans are asking is how Gerald can still be alive in the film. In Sonic Adventure 2, he was imprisoned and later executed for his crimes. Well, it's likely that the film wants to go in a different direction regarding Gerald Robotnik's fate, possibly keeping him alive to build more emotional tension for Eggman's teaming up with Sonic in #SonicMovie3. In the game Sonic Adventure 2, which saw Eggman first appear as a playable character, the scientist teams up with Sonic to stop a security measure put in place by his grandfather that would put the Space Colony ARK on a collision course with Earth. Given Eggman's admiration for his grandfather is pretty much the motivating factor behind his own nefarious plans, the film's screenwriters probably thought it would be best to keep Gerald Robotnik alive to set the stage for Eggman's confrontation with his hero, whose plans to destroy the world outweigh his own intentions for world domination. Eggman even says in the trailer that if he can't rule the world, he might as well save it – a reference to the events we saw in Sonic Adventure 2 when the ARK wanted to destroy the Earth.
