Sanborn man charged with aggravated assault

Sanborn, Iowa – A Sanborn man was arrested for aggravated assault following an incident in Sanborn.

According to a criminal complaint filed by Sanborn police with the O'Brien County Clerk of Court's office, Joseph Flores, 39, of Sanborn, is accused of domestic violence with obstruction of the airway. He was arrested Sunday.

In his statement, the officer stated that Flores placed his hands around the victim's neck during the attack, blocking his airway.

Flores was charged with domestic violence by obstructing the flow of air or blood, a Class D felony. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison.

He is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing on the charge on September 5.

Flores was booked into the O'Brien County Jail in Primghar and released the next day after posting bail.
