Tioga County Sheriff identifies dead wife and husband in residence

TIOGA, NY (WBNG) — The Tioga County Sheriff's Office has released new information in the investigation into two people found dead in the Town of Tioga.

The sheriff's office identified the dead as Janice L. Shumway, 44, and her husband Michael C. Shumway Jr., 46. The two were married.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Division and patrol officers responded to a home at 32 Weiss Road at approximately 9:18 a.m. on August 26 where two people were found dead. Police said the two died of apparent gunshot wounds.

The investigation revealed that Michael C. Shumway Jr. shot his wife in the early morning hours of August 26. He then shot himself.

The New York State Police and the Tioga County Coroner's Office assisted in the investigation.
