The Windsor Police Department moved into a new home this month.

The Windsor Police Department moved into its new facility at 960 N. 15th St. earlier this month. The larger building offers modern facilities and more space for the growing police department.

The department's old building at 200 N. 11th St. closed to the public on Aug. 2 and the new building opened to the public on Aug. 7, according to a city news release.

Construction of the 4,000 square meter facility began last August and was completed this summer, several months ahead of schedule.

The new facility is nearly three times the size of the department's old 15,000-square-foot building and will accommodate 52 sworn officers and 13 civilian employees, according to the release. The new headquarters will provide more space for the growing department, include multiple training areas, a large multi-purpose conference room and state-of-the-art evidence review and processing facilities.

The $30 million project was funded entirely with existing resources, including the city's capital improvement fund and cash reserves, according to the release. No new debt or financing was required to complete the project.

The public is invited to attend the grand opening of the new facility on Friday, September 13th from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The free event will include an open house and guided tours of the facility.
