Driver killed in single-vehicle crash on Foothill Drive: CHP

SUNOL, CA — A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on SR-84 at Foothill Road in Sunol Monday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At approximately 10:25 p.m., CHP officers responded to reports that a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado had struck a tree. The driver was found unconscious in the driver's seat with no pulse. Paramedics arrived and pronounced the driver, a 39-year-old Stockton man, dead at the scene.

The man was not wearing a seatbelt and police said they saw a bottle of alcohol in the car. The accident remains under investigation.

No other cars or vehicles were involved, CHP said.

There have been numerous tree-related accidents on Foothill Road, most notably in April when an electric vehicle crashed into a tree, killing an entire family.
