At least six Russian Shahed kamikaze drones went off course and entered Belarus during Russia's mass attack on Ukraine on August 26, the Belarusian observation group Hajun reported on August 27.

Russia targeted 15 of Ukraine’s 24 oblasts on August 26 and launched airstrikes as part of the largest air raid of all time against Ukraine.

The first drones flew into Belarusian airspace shortly after midnight on August 26, with more following between 12:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., the monitoring group said. The drones reportedly flew into Belarus via Ukraine's Chernihiv and Kyiv oblasts.

According to the monitoring group, the Belarusian Air Force patrolled southern Belarus “virtually all night”.

Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk reported on the evening of August 26 that Ukraine shot down 102 of the 127 missiles and 109 drones launched by Russia in the attack.

“In addition, several drone units were lost on Ukrainian territory, two more crossed the state border with Belarus,” Oleshchuk said.

Hajun reported in early August that at least nine Russian Shahed kamikaze drones had gone off course and entered Belarus during Russia's attacks on Ukraine in July.

The monitoring group noted that “despite the massive and regular flights of drones into Belarusian airspace,” there were “virtually no comments” from Minsk on the situation.

On August 10, Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko claimed that Belarusian air defenses had shot down several Ukrainian drones the night before.

Lukashenko described the incident as a “Ukrainian provocation” and ordered military reinforcements near the border with Ukraine.

Hajun called the claims “nonsense” and said that “no drones were detected” in Belarus on August 9.

Minsk claims Ukraine has not officially demanded withdrawal of Belarusian troops from the border

Kyiv has not yet officially asked Minsk to withdraw Belarusian troops from the border with Ukraine, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said on August 26, a day after Ukraine called on Belarus to withdraw its forces “to a distance greater than the firing range of Belarusian systems.”
