TOMS RIVER, NJ — A bomb threat at Community Medical Center in Toms River prompted a rapid response by local and state police Tuesday, leading to the evacuation of nearby patients and a temporary closure of the facility. The incident, which occurred in the early afternoon, prompted the mobilization of Toms River police, New Jersey State Police and specialized bomb disposal units.

Rescue workers immediately secured the area and began investigating the suspicious explosive device. After a thorough investigation, the bomb disposal service concluded that it was not a real explosive device.

The device consisted of a timer, tubes and a box wrapped in black tape.

“The Toms River Police Department and the State Police Bomb Disposal Unit responded. They ultimately determined the device was not a real one and the hospital is resuming normal operations,” Mayor Dan Rodrick said in a statement. “Chief Lieutenant Sundack and Lieutenant Moeller responded to the scene. All is well and everyone is safe.”

Authorities confirmed that regular operations at the hospital resumed shortly after the all-clear was given. The evacuation order was lifted and patients were allowed to return to their rooms.

Toms River Police have not released any further details about the origin of the hoax or any possible suspects. The investigation into the incident is ongoing as officers try to determine who is responsible for the false alarm.
