San Diego police officer killed in chase, another injured

A San Diego Police Department officer is dead and another was injured during a chase that ended in a fiery crash.

The fatal accident occurred on Monday evening shortly after 11:30 p.m. in the 5200 block of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard. According to witnesses, the patrol car was on fire at one point.

According to SDPD, two officers were in the vehicle and the second officer was taken to a nearby hospital. The driver being pursued reportedly died in the crash.

The exits from Interstate 805 southbound and northbound to Clairemont Mesa Boulevard were closed to all traffic.
