My favorite mystery series on Hulu returns today with season 4 – and has a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes

As a die-hard crime fan, I am looking forward to nothing more than a new season of “Only Murders in the Building” on Hulu, one of the best streaming servicesThe suspense, humor and lovable, quirky characters captivate me every time from start to finish.

Now that season 4 has just dropped on Hulu and received a very impressive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, I knew I had to talk about it. It's obvious that this show just keeps getting better and the iconic trio always comes back with a successful season.

Of course, I'm not the only one ready to dive back into the chaotic world of Charles (Steve Martin), Mabel (Selena Gomez), and Oliver (Martin Short). But if you're new to this series or want to know if season 4 is worth watching, I've got you covered. Here's what critics are currently saying about season 4 of Only Murders in the Building.

Please note, however, that I will go into more detail about the events at the end of the third season – spoiler alert!

What is Only Murders in the Building Season 4 about?

To recap, Season 3 of Only Murders in the Building ends with a dramatic twist. Fearing that Ben's (Paul Rudd) poor performance would ruin her son Cliff's (Wesley Taylor) Broadway production, Donna (Linda Emond) poisoned Ben with a cookie in hopes of incapacitating him. However, it was actually Cliff who murdered him. In a heated exchange, Cliff reacts in a moment of anger and accidentally pushes Ben down an elevator shaft, leading to his tragic death.

After the three friends solved the case and Cliff was taken away by the police, everyone involved in Oliver's play gathered to celebrate. Sazz (Jane Lynch), who was Charles' stunt double, left the party to get a bottle of wine from his apartment. But when she got there, it looked like she had been shot. It's still a mystery if Sazz was the intended target or if it was Charles (maybe even someone else entirely). That will be the big question of season four!

The trailer for season 4 of Only Murders in the Building also gives us more insight. It starts with the trio filming another episode of their podcast. Then we learn that a huge studio is planning to turn their podcast into a major Hollywood movie, so it seems like they're enjoying the Hollywood lifestyle for a glamorous murder movie (which is actually an interesting concept).

Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Reviews – What the Critics Say

“Only Murders in the Building” Season 4 currently has 96% on Rotten tomatoes from over 25 reviews. However, it's important to remember that only the first episode is currently available, so the rating may change as more episodes are released in the coming weeks.

Matthew Creith from The Wrap said: “Season 4 never loses its ambition to deliver a gripping crime thriller.” Financial Times' Dan Einav praised the show for “tackling themes of loss and loneliness, growing up and aging, self-doubt and self-assurance without ever succumbing to seriousness, which is a testament to the light writing and charming performances.”

Nick Schager from The Daily Beast To put it simply: “Provides more laughs than any other movie comedy since last year's episode.”

There is one review that is not so positive about this season. Maddy Mussen of the London Evening Standard said: “As a background film it's OK, but honestly I think that perhaps one murder too many has finally taken place in this building. Perhaps it's finally time to say 'that's it' – much to Oliver's no doubt dismay.”
