Homeless man charged with attempted murder of mother and sister in double knife attack

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WXIX) – A 24-year-old man was arrested and is accused of trying to kill his mother and sister by stabbing them to death at a Springfield Township home on Monday, according to court records and police confirmed.

Jeffrey Gardner was booked into the Hamilton County Jail around 4:30 p.m. Monday and held overnight without bail.

According to Springfield Township Police Chief Chris Niehaus, he is charged with two counts each of attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Gardner, who is listed as “homeless” in court records, is scheduled to appear before a Hamilton County judge at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

According to court documents, it happened at a home in the 9200 block of Yorkridge Drive.

According to an affidavit, Gardner “retrieved at least one knife from the kitchen and then chased his mother and sister through the house, stabbing them repeatedly and telling them he was going to kill them both. 911 was called as he fled out the back of the house. Both his mother and sister were taken to the hospital due to the nature of their injuries.”

Both women are expected to recover, police told FOX19 NOW on Monday.
