Shang Chi 2: THIS is why Simu Liu is considering the return of Michelle Yeoh in the sequel

Although Marvel Studios has not yet announced a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the film is definitely in development. Fans and cast members are eagerly awaiting it. In the case of a rumored sequel, the success of the first film has only increased the anticipation of many viewers. Simu Liu, who plays the lead role of Shang-Chi, is all too often faced with questions about the status of the sequel. Although plans are not clear, Liu has confirmed that Marvel Studios is already in the process of developing the next chapter in Shang-Chi's story.

On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Liu said Marvel is “working hard” on the martial arts master's future, but couldn't reveal any concrete news. That has put many fans on hold, as the actor hinted that big things are happening behind closed doors:

Meanwhile, at Fan Expo Canada, Liu shared his hopes that the film's sequel will feature the return of one of the most popular characters from the first movie. During a panel attended by Collider, Liu expressed hope that Michelle Yeoh, who played the role of Shang-Chi's aunt Ying Nan, would be part of the sequel. And while the return of the mystical Ta-Lo is likely years away, fans want to know: Was Yeoh's appearance at the end of the film just the beginning of the action? However, since she's won an Oscar since Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, she might have a hard time agreeing to the sequel given the hefty fees she's been commanding lately.

Speaking about working with Yeoh, Liu giggled as he recalled their big fight scene together: He commented that whenever they “had scenes together and I had the opportunity to fight her, it was more like a dance fight.” Liu mentioned how nervous he was because she was petite and graceful, while he felt like a big, awkward piece of meat just floundering around. In this scene, steeped in Tai Chi teachings, Liu would find harmony in his body one way or another, as Yeoh's character dictated. Liu had been seen to greatly admire and respect Yeoh, as he showered her with compliments, not only as a performer, but also as a collaborator.

In Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the character Yeoh played an important role in shaping the protagonist's journey. As Shang-Chi's aunt, Ying Nan is one of the mentors who trained Shang-Chi in the martial arts that the Protectors of Ta-Lo used to fully embrace his roots and equip him for the future wars.

While a Shang-Chi sequel is definitely in the works, it's still unclear if Yeoh will be involved in the sequel. Liu, on the other hand, has expressed hope that Marvel can get the Oscar winner on board for the project, adding that Larson is “at the peak of her world and just the queen of everything.” So, with fans still waiting for more information, it remains to be seen when filming will begin, which of the cast will return, and what new adventures await Shang-Chi and his allies.

The excitement will only increase following the announcement of Shang-Chi 2 and fans are excited to see how Marvel will continue to develop the story of the kung fu master.
