1 dead, 4 injured after car goes off road in Orangeburg County

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WIS) – One person is dead and four others were injured following a crash Monday afternoon in Orangeburg County.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) said a 2006 Toyota SUV went off the road on Savannah Highway near the intersection with Baptist Church Road at approximately 4:45 p.m. Monday, about two miles south of the town of Norway.

According to police, the car was traveling north on Savannah Highway before it left the right side of the road, entered a ditch and overturned.

According to SCHP, there were five people in the car: a driver and four passengers. The driver died at the scene, while the four passengers were all taken to hospitals for treatment. According to police, two of the passengers were taken to a nearby hospital and the other two to Augusta Medical.

The crash remains under investigation by SCHP.
