Fremont County Sheriff's Office investigates allegations Anderson Horne dead – by Ark Valley Voice Editor

A brief joint press release from the school district and Salida Police Department late Monday afternoon announced an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct by Salida resident Anderson Horne toward an adult former student. The investigation was being conducted by the Fremont County Sheriff's Office.

The same announcement confirmed that Horne, both a lawyer with a law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law and a Social studies teacher at Salida High School, died on Saturday, August 24, 2024. The circumstances of his death were not disclosed.

Before Horne's death, neither the schools nor the administration were informed of who was being investigated or what charges might be brought. As far as is known, no official charges have been filed.

Even now, the school district says the Fremont County Sheriff's Office has not provided Salida schools with any information for investigative purposes. The Salida SchoolDistrict clarifies that it was “informally informed” by the Salida Police Department on August 26 that the Fremont County Sheriff's Office was conducting an investigation.

The district says it will continue to support law enforcement efforts as information is released. Resources are available to staff and students to support their mental health needs. If community members have additional information or need support, contact:
