Shots fired between cars near a shopping center: MPs

PORTLAND, Oregon (COIN) — The Clark County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting involving multiple vehicles in Hazel Dell Sunday evening, authorities said.

At 6:15 p.m., the Sheriff's Office responded to multiple caller reports of a shooting at a shopping center near the 7900 block of Northeast 6th Avenue.

Callers reported that between 10 and 12 shots were fired between two cars and both cars fled the scene, officials said.

“Witnesses initially reported that a white Chrysler sedan fired multiple shots at an occupied dark-colored Volkswagen SUV and then fled,” said a press release from the Clark County Sheriff's Office. “When officers arrived on scene, they were unable to locate any suspects or victims.”

A short time later, another person called 911 and said their Range Rover had been struck by a bullet while it was occupied by people. Officers responded and noticed evidence of a bullet hitting the driver's door. The victim said they were leaving a parking lot near the first reported shot when their car was struck. No one in the car was injured.

“During the investigation, officers determined that the Volkswagen SUV had apparently also fired shots at the Chrysler sedan,” the sheriff's office said. “Officers found several shell casings in the parking lot.”

Although local hospitals have been instructed by police to be on the lookout for anyone with apparent gunshot wounds, no injuries related to the shooting have been reported to the sheriff's office.

The case is still under investigation.
