Construction workers protest against government measures against union

Members of the Construction, Forestry and Maritime Employees Union (CFMEU) took to the streets in Australian cities on Tuesday, August 27, after their union division was placed into administration and officials were removed from their jobs. Footage by Keith Salter shows a union demonstration in Sydney. The CFMEU's Construction and General Division has been placed into administration for at least three years, Australian media reported, after it was accused of bullying, corruption and criminal infiltration. This includes the removal of 270 union officials from their mostly voluntary positions and a further 11 from their paid jobs, local media reported. On Tuesday, thousands of construction workers gathered in protests in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Canberra and Perth, bringing construction projects to a halt for a day.
