FOX host Matt Vereen was arrested in South Carolina for distributing child pornography and is currently suspended from his job.

FOX 57 news anchor Matt Vereen was reportedly arrested in Columbia, South Carolina, on charges of possession and distribution of child pornography. The anchor was charged with three counts of the same charge and the media outlet has removed his author page from its official website.

Fox presenter arrested for distributing child pornography

Vereen was reportedly arrested on Wednesday, August 21, and FOX subsequently announced the host's suspension. Vereen is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. He is reportedly being held on $40,000 bail and the conditions state that the host is legally prohibited from being around minors without adult supervision and is also barred from accessing social media or the internet for personal purposes.

What are the charges against Matt Vereen?

According to The Mirror, the official charges against him include two counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of third-degree sexual exploitation.

The anchor currently faces up to 30 years in prison for his offense if convicted in all three courts. A South Carolina news site, WIS10, reported that there was an arrest warrant out for Vereen. Mirror US Sports has decided not to reveal any further details about the charges. Investigators found evidence of Vereen's purchases by reviewing his internet records, Gmail and Apple messages.

FOX releases statement

Vereen worked as a sports reporter at FOX 57. The news channel released an official statement after news of the anchor's arrest flooded social media. FOX wrote: “Sports reporter Matt Vereen has been arrested and charged with three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, according to investigators with the South Carolina Attorney General's Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.”

The network further explained the depth of the matter but did not provide any further details, writing: “Fox News understands the seriousness of these allegations and Vereen has been suspended pending an investigation. Because this is a personnel matter, the network will have no further comment at this time.”
