At the 2024 Junior Olympics, 18-year-old Lucy Myers of Picture Rocks, a recent graduate of Hughesville, won gold in the women's international bunker trap for the second year in a row and will be named to Team USA. Myers committed to Liberty University's shotgun team in the fall of 2024.

The Sullivan County International Shooting Team competed in the International Trap Junior Olympics held at Hillsdale College in Michigan in late July. The event requires hitting 125 targets to qualify for the finals.

Two female team members – Myers and Allison Fisher, both of Hughesville – finished in the top six overall and advanced to the junior women’s finals.

Myers finished second overall with 107 out of 125 points, securing starting number 2. Fisher, just 15 years old, finished the race with 105 points, securing starting number 4.

The final event consisted of 50 targets and athletes are eliminated as the competition progresses. After the first 25 individual targets, Myers was safe at 18/25 and Fisher at 15/25. Myers then received a fist bump from her younger teammate and words of encouragement as she walked back to the shooting line.

After 25 more targets were completed and four more athletes were eliminated, Myers stood all alone, overwhelmed that she had just won the Junior Olympic title for the second year in a row after winning the SCTP national title a week earlier.

The event also served as a qualifier for Team USA. The top two women and men after the 125 qualifying targets earn spots on the USA International Trap Team. In less than two weeks, Myers won two national events and secured spots on two national teams.

After years of hard work on and off the range, Myers has had a lot of success this summer. Due to injuries sustained during her high school athletic career, Myers shoots with a large brace on her right knee, which has caused her to have setbacks even on the shotgun range. She has undergone years of physical therapy to heal her injuries, but has continued to train hard and compete as often as possible to achieve her successes.

After the final, Fisher finished sixth overall, but first in her age group.
