PLATTE COUNTY, Nebraska (KOLN) – A teenager was arrested Saturday for allegedly stabbing a woman to death at a campground in Platte County.

At 2 a.m., Platte County Sheriff's Office officers responded to a campground near South 9th Street and U.S. Route 81 for a report of a person injured and bleeding from a knife wound.

Upon arrival, they found a 20-year-old Columbus woman with a cut on her upper arm. The first officer to arrive on the scene applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding until paramedics arrived.

She was later taken to Columbus Community Hospital with life-threatening injuries and then flown to Omaha by rescue helicopter.

During the investigation, the Sheriff's Office determined that the injury was caused by a minor female who fled the scene of the accident.

She was later found by Columbus Police in Columbus.

Columbus Rescue then treated the apparently injured teen. After an investigation, she was arrested and taken to the Madison juvenile detention center.

The juvenile was charged with first-degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a crime.

The Platte County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the incident and asks anyone with information to contact the Platte County Sheriff's Office at 402-564-3229 or 402-563-4000.
