Baden-Württemberg: After attacks on homeless people: 800 men called for DNA test

Status: 24.09.2024 06:21 a.m.

The attack on a homeless woman in Lauda-Königshofen happened over a year ago. There is no trace of the perpetrator. The investigators are now trying a DNA test.

The police are calling on around 800 men to take a voluntary DNA test in the next few days. The police hope that this will provide new clues about the perpetrator or perpetrators who brutally attacked a homeless woman in the Lauda-Königshofen district of Unterbalbach (Main-Tauber district) over a year ago. This includes all male persons who have played a role in the investigation so far, Jürgen Engel from the Tauberbischofsheim Criminal Investigation Department told SWR.

Court can order saliva sample

The aim is to acquire a possible suspicion of a crime, as the Mosbach (Neckar-Odenwald district) public prosecutor's office has announced. Each participant could indirectly contribute to the possible clarification of the crime with the DNA test, it continues. If the person refuses to provide a voluntarily sample, a judge could also order a saliva sample.

Homeless woman was brutally beaten in July 2023

The police have been working intensively on the case for over a year. At the end of July last year, the then 61-year-old woman was found with life-threatening injuries on the sports field in Unterbalbach. Since the attack, she has been paralyzed.
