Visitors to the Minnesota State Fair comment on the presidential election

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minnesota. – The DFL and Republican Party polling booths at the Minnesota State Fair were bustling with activity Monday afternoon as voters were eager to head to the polls.

“What motivates me in this election is the certainty that we will continue to have a country that focuses on democratic values and inclusivity,” said one trade fair visitor.

WCCO asked them what is most important to them this fall.

“Economy, jobs for people, for younger people, that makes this country safer,” said one trade fair visitor.

“I just feel like the Republicans have more common sense and all (former President Donald Trump) just wants to put everything back in order,” said one trade fair visitor.

“Reproductive rights, the environment, global warming, that also worries me a lot,” said one trade fair visitor.

For Wendy from Cambridge, this is the third election in a row in which she has voted for Trump.

“I think he's for the people. And the last time he was in office, we had a great four years in terms of the economy, security and all that,” Wendy said.

But not far away we found Richard Anderson. He says he is a former Republican who is supporting the Democrats this year.

“(The Republican Party) has strayed from its core values and is now pursuing rude and nasty policies, and I'm not interested in that,” Anderson said.

The results of the parliamentary elections are now official.

“I loved Biden, he did a great job, but Kamala brings new energy,” said another trade fair visitor.

But Drew Dietle of Golden Valley says he is sticking with Robert Kennedy Jr., even though he recently suspended his election campaign.

“I feel that the Democratic National Party is suppressing democracy, that is, the freedom of speech and the freedom of expression of people like Robert F. Kennedy Jr.,” Dietle said.

The Democrats WCCO spoke to are excited Governor Tim Walz on the Democratic ballot.

On October 1st we will see Walz and Republican vice presidential candidate Senator JD Vance debate on CBS.
