NATCHEZ – The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations is currently investigating an apparent road rage incident in which shots were fired from a moving vehicle on U.S. 61.

Corporal Craig James of the Mississippi Highway Patrol's Public Information Division said officers received a call shortly after 3 p.m. today that a person in a red 2002 GMC pickup truck was firing a firearm out his window on U.S. 61 near Selma Estates Road.

The caller followed the vehicle from a distance while on the phone with MHP, James said, adding that the driver eventually stopped on U.S. 61 in Jefferson County, where police made contact with him.

The suspect was identified as 58-year-old Terry Gooden of Natchez.

“No charges have been filed at this time as the MBI investigation is still ongoing,” James said.

Officers from the Adams County and Jefferson County sheriff's offices also responded to the incident.

Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said, “This could have been a fatal incident. Thankfully, it was not. Officers responded quickly and were able to make the arrest without further incident.”

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
