Malayalam actor Baburaj accused of sexually harassing aspiring artist in his house; denies allegations

Malayalam actor and producer Baburaj was accused of sexual abuse by a junior artist, creating controversy in the film industry. The woman claims that the incident took place at Baburaj's house in Aluva, where she was invited on the pretext of discussing a film role. When she reached the residence, according to her, only Baburaj and his assistant were present, contrary to his claim that a director, script writer and production manager would also be present.

In her statement, the actress recounts the harrowing experience and claims that Baburaj later came to the room where she was resting, verbally abused her and sexually assaulted her. “When I came to his house, only Baburaj and his assistant were there. He gave me a room to rest in, but after a while he knocked on the door. When I opened the door, he came into the room and closed the door again, verbally assaulted me and sexually abused me. I did not complain to anyone at that time because he is a famous actor and I did not get any support from anyone,” the woman told us.

She further claimed that such misconduct is not uncommon in the film industry, where women are often asked if they are willing to make “adjustments” to get a role.

The actress did not immediately file a formal complaint due to Baburaj's notoriety and her fear of retaliation in an industry that she feels does not support survivors of such incidents. However, she approached the then Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Kochi, who advised her to file a formal complaint. Despite this, she decided not to take legal action at that time.

Responding to these allegations, Baburaj has strongly denied any wrongdoing and stated that he will take legal action against the complainant. He has questioned the credibility of the allegations and suggested that the actress may have been employed at his resort and that these allegations are a ploy to defame him. Baburaj speculated that the timing of the allegations may be related to his candidacy for the position of General Secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), suggesting a possible conspiracy by his rivals within the industry.
