Eight-year-old girl and woman found dead in apartment

An eight-year-old girl and a woman were found dead in a house in Salford, Greater Manchester Police said.

Officers were called after reports of welfare concerns at the property on South Radford Street in Salford just after 10.30am on Monday, police said.

Both the child and the 40-year-old woman were found dead at the scene with the assistance of the North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.

We have deployed a number of high-visibility officers patrolling in and around the area in case any residents wish to come and speak to us or pass on any information relating to this tragic incident.

All known relatives have been informed and are being cared for by specialist staff.

Police said they were not actively looking for anyone else as part of the investigation and that there was no major threat in the community.

Detective Superintendent Simon Moyles said: “A woman and a young girl have been tragically found dead and we are working hard as a team to establish what happened here this morning.”

He said a cordon had been set up.

Det Supt Moyles added: “We have deployed a number of high-visibility officers patrolling the area and surrounding areas should any residents wish to come and speak to us or pass on any information relating to this tragic incident.”

A Salford City Council spokesman said: “We have noted this morning’s terribly sad news and our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those who have tragically lost their lives.

“We are working closely with GMP and supporting them in their ongoing investigations. Our teams will be supporting both local residents and council staff who have no doubt been greatly affected by today's events.”
