Crash on Vienna’s Gürtel: Passenger dies, driver flees

Fatal traffic accident in Vienna-Margareten on the night of Monday: A 32-year-old Serb died after the car he was in collided with a road divider. The dead person was only the passenger. According to Vienna police, excessive speed was probably the cause of the accident. This may also be why the driver of the car fled the scene of the accident along with other people, according to witnesses.

The professional fire brigade had to remove the doors and roof of the badly damaged car in order to rescue the accident victim. The emergency doctor could only confirm the man's death.

Rental car wrecked

As further investigations during the day revealed, the victim was a 32-year-old Serb who had not reported to Austria for war. The vehicle involved in the accident was a rental car with Austrian license plates. The police stressed that the traffic accident squad's investigations into the escapees were continuing.
