BJP to form government in Jammu and Kashmir: MP CM

(MENAFN-IANS) Bhopal, September 23 (IANS) Chief Minister of India's Madhya Pradesh state Mohan Yadav on Monday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will become the largest party in Jammu and Kashmir and will form the government there.

Chief Minister Yadav said he recently visited two constituencies in Samba district and witnessed a surge in votes in favour of the BJP.

He said the people of Jammu and Kashmir have witnessed development in the last ten years.

“I recently visited two constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir and was happy to see the level of support people have for BJP. I can say that BJP will create history by forming the government in Jammu and Kashmir,” the Chief Minister added here on Monday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to revoke Article 370 for Jammu and Kashmir has brought positive changes in the region, he said.

“The people of Jammu and Kashmir have realised that only the BJP government can bring peace to the region,” he added.

Prime Minister Yadav also criticised the Congress Party and its electoral alliance partner National Conference (NC), saying they had ruled Jammu and Kashmir for more than 70 years but had done nothing for the development of the people.

“The people of Jammu and Kashmir are well aware of what they have experienced in the last 70 years. For them, the last five years have been better than the last 70 years,” he added.

The Union government led by Prime Minister Modi had repealed Article 370 for Jammu and Kashmir in 2019.

Now the Congress and its alliance partner NC are seeking support in the ongoing parliamentary elections with the promise of restoring the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir.

Voting in the first phase of elections in 24 parliamentary seats in Jammu and Kashmir took place on September 18 and the voter turnout was 61.38 percent.

Campaigning for the second phase of the elections ended on Monday, and voting for 26 seats in the assembly will take place on Wednesday.
