McLaren hospitals and clinics fully operational after criminal cyber attack

McLaren Health Care said its information technology platforms have been fully restored and the health system's clinical and administrative operations across Michigan are fully operational following a cyberattack.

The cyberattack occurred on Wednesday (August 7) and was expected to continue until the end of the monthbut the recovery process was completed prematurely.

Officials said all temporary procedures put in place during the outage have been lifted and providers at all McLaren Health Care hospitals, Karmanos Cancer Centers and outpatient clinics have regained access to patients' electronic medical records.

The process of entering the patient records manually entered during the cyberattack into the electronic system began last weekend and is expected to take several weeks.

Officials said clinical operations were largely maintained while McLaren's clinical and IT teams continued to restore the network.

All patients and communities served by McLaren facilities are encouraged to continue receiving care as usual:

  • All emergency departments are open, admitting patients, and treating all cases arriving via EMS. (For a complete list of locations, visit mclaren.org/ER.)

  • All radiotherapy units at Karmanos Cancer Institute facilities remain operational.

  • The McLaren Stroke Network, including McLaren's two Comprehensive Stroke Centers (McLaren Flint and McLaren Macomb), is fully operational.
