Couple injured as gunman on motorcycle fires into group in North Philly – NBC10 Philadelphia

Philadelphia police are investigating after a gunman stopped at an intersection in North Philadelphia on Sunday evening and fired into a crowd outside a local store, injuring two people, officials said.

According to police, the incident occurred around 10:10 p.m. Sunday night when police responded to a report of shots fired at the intersection of Germantown and Glenwood Avenues in North Philadelphia.

Here, police officers said, they learned that two people had been shot, but that they had already been taken to a nearby hospital in private vehicles.

Two people were injured in the incident, officials said: a 20-year-old woman who was shot in the neck and face, and a man – who Philadelphia police Inspector DF Pace said is believed to be between 20 and 30 years old but who did not have identification on him at the time of the shooting – who was shot in the upper torso.

Pace told NBC10 that both victims were in critical condition.

The investigation into that incident revealed that the shooting occurred when a man on a red motorcycle rode up to the intersection of Germantown and Glenwood Avenue while a group of “four or five people” were standing outside, visiting a Chinese corner store on that block, according to Pace.

According to Pace, the shooter pulled out a firearm and fired in the direction of the group, hitting two of the people present.

A member of the group, Pace said, fired back at the shooter, who then fled the scene on foot, leaving the motorcycle at the scene.

Investigators found about ten cartridge cases that presumably came from the shooter's weapon, Pace said. The perpetrator shot back at the attacker at least four times.

Pace said the person who shot back at the motorcyclist fled before police arrived, as did everyone else who was near the two shooting victims.

Pace said police do not yet have a motive for the shooting and have not made any arrests. However, investigators have managed to obtain surveillance footage of the incident and the investigation is ongoing, Pace said.
