Norwegian extradited from California to face sexual assault charges | News, Sports, Jobs

IRON MOUNTAIN – A 23-year-old Norwegian is accused of sexually abusing two minors.

According to the Michigan Attorney General's Office, Trentin McWilliams was arraigned Wednesday in 95B District Court in Iron Mountain on seven felony counts of sexually abusing two minors on two separate occasions.

The Attorney General's Office said McWilliams was extradited from California to Dickinson County by the U.S. Marshals Service earlier this week to face these charges as part of the ongoing and recently announced Operation Survivor Justice.

McWilliams is accused of sexually abusing a child in a relative's home in 2018. In July, he was charged by the Attorney General's Office with second-degree sexual abuse and sexual abuse of a child for an immoral purpose, a news release said. The Dickinson County Attorney's Office also charged McWilliams in February with three counts of third-degree sexual abuse and two counts of fourth-degree sexual abuse for allegedly sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl in a vehicle in October 2022.

Funding for McWilliams' extradition came this year from the recently announced $1 million state grant to Operation Survivor Justice, a partnership between the Michigan Department of Attorney General, local district attorneys and the U.S. Marshals Service to find, apprehend and return to Michigan fugitive offenders with outstanding sexual assault warrants.

“Operation Survivor Justice is already having a profound impact in Michigan and across the country,” said Nessel in a press release. “Through our partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service, we have been able to remove a number of individuals accused of sexual assault from their communities and ensure that they face the charges in court.”

McWilliams will next appear before Judge Julie Lacost in District 95B Court on October 2 at 11:30 a.m.
