Tutor arrested for sexually assaulting student in Thrissur

Thrissur: Aloor police arrested a tutor on Monday on suspicion of sexually harassing a student who had enrolled in his centre for mathematics classes. The accused is Sarath (28), a native of Vellanchira.

According to the student's complaint, Sarath had taken nude photographs of the girl and sexually abused her for nearly three years by blackmailing her with the photographs. The incident came to light after the girl told her friend about the ordeal. As instructed by her friend, the girl approached the police with a complaint.

The girl, who is currently pursuing a B.Tech degree, attended Sarath's coaching centre for mathematics classes while she was in senior secondary school. According to police, the accused runs three coaching centres in Aloor, Kodkara and Kombodinjamakkal.

The police recorded the complainant's statement and launched a thorough investigation. Though Sarath deleted the girl's photographs from his mobile phone, the police seized all the devices in his possession to preserve the evidence. The police are yet to confirm whether the accused sexually abused any other minor students at the centre.
