Could the Las Vegas Raiders be the next team to bench their quarterback?

The Las Vegas Raiders have gained new confidence in quarterback Gardner Minshew after he led the team to a miraculous comeback victory over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2.

The veteran threw passes for 212 yards and a touchdown with a 72% completion rate in the second half against Baltimore, demonstrating his resilience and leadership in the face of adversity.

Although Minshew impressed last week and is slowly gaining momentum, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox believes the former Indianapolis Colt shouldn't rest too much at his starting position. On a list of quarterbacks most likely to be benched next after the Carolina Panthers trade Bryce Young for Andy Dalton, Minshew ranked fifth out of the seven playmakers he listed, according to Knox.

Here's what Knox had to say about Minshew and the Raiders' future at quarterback.

After overcoming some early adversity in Week 2 and contributing to an unexpected comeback win over the Baltimore Ravens, Minshew may have already earned the trust of the locker room.

Minshew (77.5% completion percentage, 95.6 QB rating) is playing quite well right now, but if that changes, the Raiders likely won't hesitate to go back to O'Connell and potentially look for quarterbacks who are eligible for the 2025 draft.

It's extremely unlikely that Minshew will produce enough to establish himself as the Raiders' playmaker this season, but the former Washington State star is a far better option than Aidan O'Connell, whose training camp and preseason have been disappointing.

Minshew isn't the most exciting player, but he nearly led the Colts to the playoffs in 2023 and plays clean, efficient football. With Las Vegas boasting one of the better pass-catching teams in the NFL, led by Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers and rookie tight end Brock Bowers, Minshew is set up for success this season.

With Minshew at the helm, the Raiders will face the aforementioned Panthers in their home opener at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday. With the Panthers coming in with a new playmaker and Carolina struggling to play competent football, this is a good opportunity for Minshew to further cement his spot as the 2024 starter.
