Bears receiver Rome Odunze's father takes out Dan Orlovsky with perfect clip after ESPN host criticized him

An ESPN presenter's criticism of Chicago Bears receiver Rome Odunze sparked fierce opposition from the NFL rookie's father on Thursday.

In an article for X earlier this week, Dan Orlovsky described some of the issues first-year signal caller Caleb Williams faced in the Bears' 31st-ranked passing offense.

“The Bears and Caleb need to get used to giving Rome more 'covered' opportunities,” Orlovsky wrote on X. “Rome isn't getting free at this level right now – Caleb needs to get used to throwing him some 50/50 balls.”

But the suggestion that Odunze “will not be released” was too much for his father James.

The proud father responded to X with a clip from Chicago's win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 1.

Odunze is seen running uncovered from one side of the end zone to the other while Williams ignores him on this play.

James also shared a statistic showing that his son ranks fifth among NFL rookie wideouts in win rate, which measures how often a receiver beats his primary defender in coverage.

And to make his point clear, James practically said Orlovsky's name in a subsequent post on X.

“A quick (2 GAMES of 17) reference guide for anyone with the initials DO who works for the Entertainment & Sports Programming Network W/respect,” wrote James.

Some said James' post read like a criticism of Williams, but Odunze's father immediately refuted that claim.

“For clarity, this tweet was only about Dan Orlovsky's nonsensical statement,” James wrote. “It is about nothing or anyone else. PERIOD.”

Odunze had just three catches on nine passes attempted as the Bears went 1-1 in the first two games. Williams, his fellow rookie, was predictably inconsistent, completing just 56 percent of his passes for 267 yards. Williams has also yet to throw a touchdown pass, although he has been intercepted twice.

Orlovsky's criticism of Odunze also angered Bears fans, who were encouraged by the former Washington Huskies star's performance in Weeks 1 and 2.

“Dan, I'm just curious. How much game film have you actually watched?” one fan responded to X. “I've seen at least 5 clips of Rome hitting his corner deep. Caleb just doesn't have the time to get it there with the line. This just seems like a lazy, clickbait version to me since Caleb is the hot topic lately.”

Orlowski was not amused.

“Are you serious?” the former Connecticut Huskies star replied.

The fan didn't back down: “It couldn't be more serious. After seeing reporter after reporter whine about Caleb 'holding the ball too long' when the numbers clearly show that's not true, it's pretty hard to take any of you seriously.”

Orlovsky wasn't finished yet: “I watch every snap. From every game. Every week. Always.”
