Brad Binder after crash: “No aerodynamics, no fun” / MotoGP

KTM factory riders had high hopes after finishing 6th in Saturday's sprint. After a promising start in the 28th MotoGP match of the season, the #33 spun off the track in the second lap.

Brad Binder once again impressed with a very good start. The Red Bull KTM RC16 once again shot past its opponents from the second row. But after the first section of corners, the original order was restored.

From the beginning, fellow brand rider Pedro Acosta was again pushing from behind. But before the South African could be overtaken, he fell over his front wheel at the start of the second lap. Binder commented on the crash with gallows humor: “My race was really great, but only short.”

After the harmless crash, Binder was even able to continue riding, but there was nothing left to win at the GP. “Brad Attack” also struggled with the material as he continued riding: “The bike was no longer in the best shape. The aerodynamics on the right side were completely destroyed and it was no fun to continue riding with it. But I thought to myself, anything can happen in racing, so I was determined to finish.”

Before Brad Binder disappeared to pack his bags – the MotoGP is now disappearing to Asia and Australia for five events – the KTM veteran lamented the missed opportunity. “The potential was definitely there. After the sprint, which put too much strain on the rear tyre, we made a change in the warm-up this morning that worked very well. It's a shame and annoying that I was only able to enjoy the improvement in the GP for such a short time. Compared to Misano, I have definitely improved us.”

The KTM factory rider did not want to give a precise forecast for the next MotoGP competition in Indonesia: “In Indonesia we will again use a special tire specification.” That feels like wood at first. Everything else remains to be seen.”

Even though the outcome was disastrous from the company's point of view with the subsequent crash of Pedro Acosta, Binder saved his fifth place in the world championship thanks to the rookie's retirement.
