Chinese woman survived her husband's attempted murder when he fell from a cliff and gives birth to artificially inseminated baby

A woman in China who lost her unborn child when her husband pushed him off a cliff in Thailand has given birth to a son five years later, warming hearts on social media on the mainland.

Wang Nan, 37, known online as Wang Nuannuan, suffered serious injuries in the 34-metre fall while on holiday in Pha Taem National Park in northeast Thailand in June 2019.

Wang suffered 17 broken bones, had over 100 steel pins inserted and was confined to a wheelchair for three years. After several operations, she was able to stand and walk unaided last year.

Her husband, Yu Xiaodong, tried to kill her in order to inherit her considerable fortune and use it to pay off his gambling debts. Yu was sentenced to 33 years and four months in prison by a Thai court in June last year after a third hearing of the case.

On September 17, Wang posted on Weibo that she had given birth to a son and attached a photo of herself with the baby: “My son and I are safe. Thank you, my dear baby, for coming into my world,” she wrote.
