2 people shot in Hopewell neighborhood after calls saying “multiple shots were fired”

HOPEWELL, Virginia – Two men in their 60s are still hospitalized after a shooting in a Hopewell neighborhood early Sunday morning, police said.

At 12:05 a.m., officers were called to the 1200 block of High Avenue for a report of “multiple shots fired,” said Lt. Cheyenne Casale of the Hopewell police department, which is in the Arlington neighborhood.

“When police arrived on scene, they were advised that a man had come into the emergency room with life-threatening gunshot wounds,” Casale said. “Immediately after that call, police were also called to the 200 block of E. Broadway where a man was found lying in a hallway.”

This man was also taken to a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound that authorities said was not life-threatening.

“The two men involved were victims of the shooting on High Avenue,” Casale said.

Both victims, a 63-year-old and a 67-year-old man, both of Hopewell, remained hospitalized Sunday morning, Casale said.

Police said they found numerous bullet casings on the road along High Avenue.

No arrests were made and officials said the agency's criminal investigation department had launched an investigation.
