At the end of August, tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch's superyacht sank off Palermo under unclear circumstances. The boat manufacturer is now suing his widow.

Palermo — At the end of August, the Bayesian superyacht capsized off the coast of Palermo in unusual weather conditions. Seven people lost their lives. Among the victims were the billionaire British engineer Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter.

Now the Italian boat builder of the superyacht, the Italian Sea Group (TISG), intends to sue Lynch's crew and widow for damages amounting to over 200 million euros. According to the company responsible, the accident has caused serious damage to the company's image.

The accident has already led to monetary losses for the company: three clients are said to have broken off negotiations after the accident, a well-known European fashion house is said to have broken off a collaboration and a large investment fund has withdrawn.

TISG clearly blames the crew members for the sinking of the Bayseian. According to Giovanni Costantino, managing director of the group, so much water entered the yacht because the doors and hatches of the ship were open. In addition, the crew was not qualified enough. The yacht was considered unsinkable, so Costantino believes that structural problems with the ship are therefore out of the question, reports the Italian newspaper The National.

What exactly led to the accident is still unclear. The yacht is still on the bottom off the coast of Palermo.

Lynch relatives outraged by damages claim: “The Italian Sea Group should be ashamed”

According to media reports, the family of 59-year-old Lynch is outraged by the company's decision.

A close friend of the Lynch family explained in an interview with Just: “The Italian Sea Group should be ashamed.” Giovanni Costantino is a disgrace and is desperately trying to shift the blame. He went to the media before all the bodies had even been recovered, showing his lack of decency. Now he is apparently going to sue his own clients. (simply)
