Rochester, NY (WHAM) – As police search for answers, Myrtle Watson's family is pleading for anyone to come forward with information that could lead to an arrest.

Dozens gathered outside Myrtle Watson's home in Rochester's Marketview Heights neighborhood Friday night. It was a somber scene, many remembering Watson; many calling her “Pokie,” a kind soul who opened her home to many in need; a talented musician who performed around the world.

Watson was found dead with injuries to her upper body in her first-floor apartment on Sixth Street on Saturday, Sept. 14, police said.

“This should not have happened to my aunt,” said Rodney Knight Jr., Watson's nephew. “It's really a difficult time. My aunt was just very loving and I want justice for her.”

“She took care of everyone,” said Sharon Watson, Watson's sister. “She let people stay at her house. She fed them. She bathed them. Most of all, she prayed with them.”

An emotional memorial service was held in front of Watson's home in her memory. As the crowd released balloons, many chanted, “We love you, Pokie!”

Watson's family is desperately looking for answers and is asking anyone with information to come forward.

“That can't be your mother,” Watson said. “That can't be your sister. That can't be your niece.”

“We have to stick together,” said Larry Mallory, Watson's friend. “We have to put an end to this violence. Unnecessary violence.”

Rochester police have not yet arrested anyone in connection with Watson's death. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 423-9300, where you can remain anonymous.
