Fernandez's avocado brownies surprise fans, Kostyuk in tears after tougher defeat

In today's dose of social media, we look back at the most important activities and conversations from ATP and WTA players. Marta Kostyuk and Holger Rune suffered disappointing losses at the Asian Swing. The Ukrainian left the tournament in tears, while the Dane shared a heartfelt message on social media. Off the court, Katie Boulter joked about her boyfriend Alex De Minaur's injury after the Australian announced his injury.
Caroline Garcia reflected on balancing her personal life and tennis, while Leylah Fernandez shared a fun video of herself making avocado brownies.

Watch Fernandez bake avocado brownies in her latest video

The Canadian's last appearance was at the US Open, where she was eliminated in the first round in both the singles and doubles alongside Yulia Putintseva. The world number 28 has since taken a break from competition for several weeks and will return to the upcoming China Open as number 22.

The former US Open runner-up shared a video with her fans of them making avocado brownies: “Today we are going to bake brownies,” Fernandez said. “I love baking, also here is one of the brownie recipes with avocados in it. You can't forget avocados.”

In the following video you can see how Leylah cooks and what her brownie looks like in the end.

Kostyuk in tears after quarter-final defeat against Shnaider

Marta Kostyuk was moved to tears after her loss to Diana Shnaider in the quarterfinals of the Korea Open. The fifth seed lost a hard-fought match 6:7(7), 6:3 and was eliminated from her first Asian Swing tournament. The world number 18 had good chances in the first set and wasted four set points.

The 22-year-old Ukrainian was very upset after the match, as she seemed to have a good chance of reaching her third WTA 500 semifinal (after losing on the two mandatory occasions). Her next challenge will be the China Open, where she is seeded 16th. A video on social media shows the moment Kostyuk burst into tears after her loss to Shnaider.

Rune shares heartfelt message after surprise exits at Hangzhou Open

Holger Rune left an emotional message after his surprise loss at the Hangzhou Open: The Dane was the top seed in the draw and had a bye in the first round. In the round of 16, he faced qualifier Yasutaka Uchiyama (No. 160), who seemed to have an easy debut on paper, but he lost in two sets (5-7, 4-6).

Rune had been in China for several days and had been in the spotlight in the run-up to the tournament, but he has been going through an inconsistent period following his first-round exit at the US Open and split with his coach Patrick Mouratoglou just over a month ago.

“Impressed by Hangzhou and @hangzhouopen 🇨🇳 thank you for the warm welcome. I hope to see you again, I'm sad to be leaving again 🐼,” wrote Holger Rune on social media.

Katie Boulter brings humour to De Minaur's injury report

Alex DeMinaur has endured a bittersweet season in which he won two titles, finished in the top 10 for the first time in his career and reached the quarterfinals of three of the four Grand Slam tournaments this year. But injuries have interrupted his magnificent season after a hip injury forced him to withdraw before his quarterfinal match against Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon.

After swinging on grass, it took him six weeks to get back on court. He skipped the Olympics and went straight to the US Open without having played a hard court match since March. De Minaur lost to Jack Draper in the quarterfinals and was visibly struggling with his hip at the end of the match.

He informed his fans via social media about a possible comeback, as he is registered for the Shanghai Masters, which begins on September 30th, although there are still doubts about his participation in the tournament: “I'm going through a difficult phase right now, trying to get my injury under control, but as a wise person once said… 'There is always a light at the end of the tunnel' 👀💡☀️🤞❤️”

His girlfriend, world number 34 Katie Boulter, jokingly commented on the post: “Damn, it's hell, you deal with me every day 🥴”

Finding balance: Caroline Garcia's tips for managing life and tennis

Caroline Garcia was the star of a new video from the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA), which was founded in 2019 by Novak Djokovic and Vasek Pospisil. The PTPA is independent of the ATP and WTA and advocates for players' rights. The current executive committee includes Novak Djokovic, Ons Jabeur, Hubert Hurkacz and Taylor Townsend, among others.

The 31-year-old French tennis player spoke in her latest video about how she manages to balance tennis and everyday life, considering how tight the schedules of players are each season.

“It's very important to find a good balance between tennis and training or the stress of competition. And also to refresh the mind, just resting in your room, or going for a walk outside or spending time with your partner,” said the 2012 WTA finalist. “We got engaged recently, so we're celebrating with the family who announced it, and that's a lot of very positive emotions,” she added.

“He could pass as anything”: Kokkinakis laughs at the Hurkacz confusion

In a new ATP social media dynamic, people on the street were shown photos of Hubert Hurkacz and asked to guess what the Polish player does for a living. Several of his teammates responded to answers from the audience, including Felix Auger-Aliassime, Arthur Fils and Thanasi Kokkinakis.

No one could tell or guess that Hurkacz is a tennis player, as he was confused with a financier, an architect and a content creator. “I guess Hubi doesn't look like an athlete either,” Auger-Aliassime said, laughing. “Hubi could really pass for anything, especially when you hear him talk and see how he walks. You wouldn't expect a tennis player,” Kokkinakis added.
